Picnic Day at Ghausi: Celebrating Engineering, Community, and Fun

Picnic Day 2025 brought excitement, innovation, and hands-on learning to Ghausi Hall, where students, faculty, and visitors gathered to celebrate engineering in action. The day featured a series of engaging exhibits and interactive experiences both inside and outside the hall.

The festivities kicked off at 9:00 AM outside the front of Ghausi Hall, where guests enjoyed morning activities, student showcases, and refreshments in a relaxed, social atmosphere.

Beginning at 10:00 AM, the Ghausi Hall Lobby transformed into a hub of seismic discovery. Visitors tested their creativity by building towering K’Nex structures and watching them shake on a real earthquake table. Kids and adults alike jumped on a shake pad to simulate their own quakes, while educational posters highlighted cutting-edge earthquake research at UC Davis.

Just outside Ghausi, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the Steel Bridge Team (Team Chrome Ollie) proudly displayed their bridge design, showcasing the craftsmanship, precision, and teamwork behind this student-led engineering project.

Meanwhile, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, guests could enjoy the UC Davis Civil and Environmental Engineering Art Gallery, also located in the Ghausi Lobby. This exhibit featured visually striking student artwork that bridged science and creativity, offering a unique perspective on engineering's role in shaping the world.
