Dr. Takashi Asano, Professor Emeritus at the University of California at Davis, is a globally recognized expert in water recycling and reuse, with over 40 years of experience in environmental and water resources engineering. Born in 1937 in Sapporo, Japan, he moved to the United States in 1963 to pursue advanced studies, earning degrees from UC Berkeley and the University of Michigan. He joined UC Davis in 1978 and also served as Deputy Director for Advanced Water-use at California’s Water Resource Administration Bureau. Dr. Asano has significantly influenced international water management practices, sharing his expertise with students in Japan and advising major global organizations. His groundbreaking work earned him the prestigious Stockholm Water Prize in 2001, and he has played a key role in fostering academic exchange between the U.S. and Japan.
