Visas & Visiting Scholars

Impacts on J-1 extensions: Effective September 15, 2026, J-1 scholar extensions will require an additional step for an extension of stay due to the Final Rule eliminating Duration of Status.

Extension of Stays (EOS) will need to be requested ideally 45-60 days in advance of the end date. A timely filed J-1 EOS application will automatically extend current J-1 program activities/employment for up to 240 days while the application is pending.

Interested in inviting a Visiting Scholar? Provide AP Analyst with:

  1. Invitation Letter Template
  2. CoA for SISS recharge
  3. Scholar’s email (and CV)

Start date is not guaranteed depending on visa wait times and processes. AP Analyst will reach out to scholar to coordinate paperwork, Employee Disclosure Process Clearance, and i-Global processes.
