Daniel Sperling Receives TRB’s 2018 Roy W. Crum Award

Please join us in congratulating Professor Dan Sperling, who has received the Roy W. Crum Award from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Transportation Research Board (TRB).

This award recognizes outstanding leadership in transportation research or administration and is the highest research award from the TRB, and Professor Sperling is the only person from UC Davis to ever receive this honor.

According to TRB, Sperling was “recognized for his distinguished achievements in transportation research in the areas of energy, air quality, climate change and policy, as well as for the research achievements of the many students he has mentored.”

In 1948 the Highway Research Board established an award in recognition of outstanding achievement in the field of transportation research. This award was known as the Highway Research Board Distinguish d Service Award until 1952, when the Executive Committee redesignated it the Roy W. Crum Distinguished Service Award as a memorial to the Board's director, Roy W. Crum, who served as head of the HRB staff from 1928 until his death in 1951. Outstanding achievement consists of the performance of distinguished service, the production of fundamental or developmental research, or the administration, promotion, or fostering of outstanding research that in the judgment of the Executive Committee is worthy of the award.

Sperling will accept his award on Jan. 16, 2019, at the 98th TRB Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Congratulations Dr. Sperling!
